Gangubai kathiawadi: The film is loosely based on one of the chapters of Hussain Zaidi's book Mafia queens of mumbai. A crime thriller, it is mainly a biography of Gangubai kothewali, madam of the brothel. It is about a young girl sold into prostitution by her boyfriend and her journey of becoming the madam of the brothel in Kamathipura. Alia Bhatt will play the titular role alongside Shantanu Maheshwari playing ramnik lal, her boyfriend. Gangubai kathiawadi is directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and produced under Bhansali productions and Pen films. The film is slated to release in September this year. A poster of the film was released recently which received huge appreciation. In the first poster Alia is seen as a young girl dressed in a blouse and a skirt with a gun on a table by her side. The first picture was captioned " One look, a thousand emotions." In the second poster Alia is looking a bit more mature, sporting a big red bindi and kohled eyes.
