Superstar Akshay Kumar, on Monday, advised the Maharashtra government to build toilets in every nook and corner of the state. He suggested that now defunct telephone booths shall be turned into toilets, to make the state, open defecation free.
Speaking at a conclave 'Transform Maharashtra' as part of the 57th Maharashtra Day celebrations, the actor urged the Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to construct small toilets and create an app to inform people about the nearest toilet locations for optimum use.
He recollected an incident that happened recently where, a woman asked for a divorce from her husband, as his house did not have a toilet. He suggested all men that, if they want to get married they must ensure a toilet at their homes. He called for changing the mindset of people who are reluctant to have a toilet in the house where food is also cooked and pointed out the enormous problems the women encounter due to this narrow thinking.
The actor also recounted a dialogue from his upcoming film, ‘Toilet - Ek Prem Katha’, "agar biwi paas chahiye, to ghar mein sandaass (toilet) chahiye", this got him a loud round of applause from the attendees and even by dignitaries like industrialist Ratan Tata.
Welcoming the actor's suggestions, Fadnavis said he would initiate measures to implement them on a priority basis to increase the number of public toilets in the state.
Akshay Kumar also guided the assembled youth on how to stay fit and healthy. He talked about the need and importance of exercising and proper diet, to keep ailments and disease at bay.
