Filmmaker Neeraj Ghaywan, who impressed everyone with his impeccable direction in his debut film ‘Masaan’ is ready for the release of his short film ‘Juice’ starring Shefali Shah in the lead role. The movie is the powerful take on the deeply ingrained and normalized patriarchy and sexism in Indian society; it has found an easy way into our households, with both men and women being complicit in the discrimination against the sex.
In a recent media interaction, Ghaywan said that our female actors are experimenting a lot more than our male actors. “Female stars are doing such great work as of late but male stars still have to deal with the massy tag of being a superstar”, Neeraj said. Shefali, who is known for her work in movies like ‘Waqt: The Race Against Time’, ‘Gandhi, My Father’ and ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’ also said that she has been impressed with the work of female actors lately.
She said, “I have to admit that our Industry is changing, today we have roles for Vidya Balan, we have ‘Lipstick Under My Burkha’ and ‘Pink’, there are so many woman-oriented films”. Neeraj also said that he is looking forward to work with the female stars in the future.
He has won National Award for his work in ‘Masaan’, which is quite an accomplishment, with his first film only he made a huge impact as a filmmaker and now he is among one of the best filmmakers of his generation.
He doesn’t have any plans for a feature film right now, let’s see what we get from him in the future, his style of filmmaking has certainly impressed a lot of people and they are looking forward to his work.
