In the history of 103 years Indian Cinema, only four films of Bollywood, who travelled till Oscar. Indian Filmmakers think that Indian Cinema has done lots of thriving in last 10-15 years. Many film are tried which are out of the league. But when it comes to the Oscar then, Indian Cinema has 4 films, which were made before 2005.
However, Bollywood is always complaining that, Oscar selectors purposely neglect Hindi Movies. But after the negligence also, 4 films of Bollywood reached Oscar. Most of them did not win, but these four films gave good competition to the competitors.
American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) every year called best films from around the globe and gives awards in various categories. These 4 film were nominated in the Best Foreign Language film. These Four Movies are Mother India, Salaam Bombay, Lagaan and Water.
The film that was selected for the Oscar was 'Mother India', this was nominated in 1958 in Oscar. This film was directed by Mehboob Khan, Sunil Dutt, Nargis, Rajendra Kumar and Raj Kumar starrer film showed the real face of India of that times.
The second movie that that was nominated in Oscar was 'Salaam Bombay' in 1998. This was also nominated in Best Foreign Language category. This film is based on the situation of Slum areas in Bombay. Many says that this film was not less than Slumdog Millionair. Nana Patekar and Raghubir Yadav were in a lead role.
Third film was 'Lagaan' in 2001, is the most famous film of Indian Cinema. Informer says that, 'Lagaan' was not less than the oscar winning 'No Mans Land'. Aamir Khan was playing lead role in this film. This movie was sports drama.
Forth Film was 'Water', starring John Abraham, Seema Vishwas and Lisa Ray, this was the last film to be get nominated in Oscar. This is an Indo-Canadian Film, this was written by Anurag Kashyap, directed by Deepa Mehta. This movie was based on a life of a widow.
