'Lipstick under My Burkha' pockets Readers Award at 'Glasgow Film Festival'.

Konkona Sen Sharma starred movie 'Lipstick under My Burkha' bagged the Audience Award at the Glasgow Film Festival 2017 even as the producers remain to struggle for its release in India. The honor, granted for the third time, is the only prize delivered out at the festival. Reacting to the huge win, director Alankrita Shrivastava said that 'This award gives her hope and strength. It makes her believe that as women, we must proceed to tell our stories, undeterred by those who want to quiet us. Moviemakers Shyam Benegal and Sudhir Mishra and Neeraj Ghaywan between others have criticized the censor board's judgment to refuse a permit to Praksha Jha's production 'Lipstick Under My Burkha'. The movie, which is directed by Alankrita Shrivastava, was refused certification by 'Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC)' for supposedly being 'lady oriented' and containing 'abusive words'. Taking an intention at the CBFC, Benegal said, 'the censor board should approve the movie not censor it. He is against censorship of films; to stop any movie from being released is not legitimate.' Mishra questioned the board speaking it does not have the right to hold talented and young directors from exhibiting their work. Mishra said 'What right does anyone have to stop creative, young and skilled directors like Alankrita from exhibiting her movie? The case is not whether CBFC like it or not. The youth has a right to signify them'. The director of 'Masaan' Ghaywan urged support for Alankrita and tweeted on the social networking platform Tweeter, '@alankrita601's movie 'Lipstick Under My Burkha' that won an award for gender equity is being mansplained over presence 'Lady oriented', Irony!' He condemns the dismissal of #CensorCertificate to @prakashjha27’s movie. It's an act of ego by Pahalaj Nihalani' filmmaker Ashoke Pandit posted on Twitter. Screenplay writer and lyricist Varun Grover said the movie will go to 'Film Certification Appellate Tribunal' (FCAT) and get the allowance but the government will not serve on the board. 'Lipstick Under My Burkha', with a wonderful trailer, now won an award on Gender Equity at @MumbaiFilmFest.
