Raj Kapoor's 1951 classic movie Awaara’s title track will now be heard in Madhur Bhandarkar's upcoming short film, ‘Mumbai Mist’. The song will play as a background score for all the important scenes of the movie.
Madhur Bhandarkar says it is his way of paying tribute to the legendary actor-filmmaker, Raj Kapoor, whose death anniversary is on June 2.
The director accounted that ‘Awaara Hoon’ is one of his favourite tracks and is very popular internationally too and the song fits the subject of his short film.
The director said that instead of recreating the song he has preferred to use the original track with due permission. The song was written by Shailendra, composed by Shankar Jaikishan and sung by Mukesh.
The short-film ‘Mumbai Mist’, stars Annu Kapoor, Parvin Dabas and child artiste Devrath Mudgal. The story of the movie shows a heart melting relationship between an old man and an orphaned child.
The film is said to be a part of a directors' collaboration project for the Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa (BRICS) Film Festival. The festival will take place from June 23 to 27 in China and the director will represent India along with other globally recognized storytellers.
Madhur adds that the reason he chose this song in particular is because it is a huge hit in Russia and China.
