Nandita Das directorial ‘Manto’ poster released. The role of an iconic Pakistani writer is played by none other than Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Nandita Das presented the footage of the movie at the Cannes Film Festival on 21st May, which features Nawazuddin Siddiqui as Saadat Hasan Manto and Rasika Duggal as Safia Manto.
The biographical film set in the 1940s will unfold the life story of Pakistani writer Saadat Hasan Manto, who was known to write about the atrocious truths that no one dared to talk about.
Nawazuddin looks different in the poster and holds a close resemblance to the real life character. Everything from his disheveled hair to the wrinkles on his face, transform him to Manto. And it's not a shock, Nawaz is known for doing these things for his role. Recently, we saw the poster of ‘Mom’, where he looked as an old bald man and before that in ‘Raman Raghav 2.0’ he was seen as an unstable man with a mark on his face.
The director, Nandita Das says “I was in college when I first read Manto’s story. I was so fascinated by how truthful and edgy his stories were. In his writing, he addressed free speech and women issues. I always wanted to make a film on his life and his work.”
She also stated that the film is shot in Mumbai and they are using VFX to remove the modern elements from the film. Nawazuddin Siddiqui, on the other hand, says “I hope that the will encourage the people to speak out the truth”
This biopic is certainly something to watch out for. With awesome and polished actors, great director, and truthful story; the film has everything to drive the audience.
