REVIEW: India and Pakistan partition stories have been a very tricky task and is bound to invoke opposing sentiments. Director Gurinder Chadha is well aware of all this and hence chooses to weave the historical moment of history around the uniting factor of love, and its various forms.
The story gives us a picture of what exactly happened at the time of Partition by telling us a love story between Aalia Huma Qureshi) and Jeet (Manish Dayal), and on the other – the patriotic love Indians and the Pakistanis have for their own. Amidst this, the director also showcases the compassion and concern that Lord Mountbatten role played by Hugh Bonneville and his wife Lady Edwina Gillian Anderson had for people of our nation.
The movie very intelligently highlights the political tensions that surrounded around the three nations. And how the religious differences were fueled which led to partition.
