Laxmii, the much-awaited comedy horror movie has finally received a digital premiere on Disney+ Hotstar. The movie has started streaming on digital screens from 9 November, 2020 onwards paving way for anticipating fans to watch the movie from the comfort of their homes. A remake of the 2011 Tamil hit 'Kanchana', starring Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani in prominent roles, Bollywood geeks were expecting Laxmii to release theatrically in the country, since the lockdown and various restrictions imposed on cinema halls and theatres have now been lifted. While there were several discussions and reports on Laxmii getting a theatrical release in India, the news has now been dismissed. It has however been revealed that Laxmii will otherwise premiere in a few theatrical screens outside India. Reports suggest that theatrical shows of the movie 'Laxmii' have already commenced overseas, in Australia, Fiji and New Zealand. While the news of Laxmii getting only a digital release in India has now been confirmed, fans have been feeling disappointed.
Owing to the fact that theatres in most states have now started to function keeping safety measures and important guidelines in mind, Laxmii not hitting the big screens has come as a disappointment among the public. Laxmii is written and helmed by Raghava Lawrence and produced jointly by Fox Star Studios, Cape of Good Films, Shabinaa Entertainment and Tushar Entertainment House. A package of comedy, entertainment as well as horror, Laxmii features Akshay Kumar in the lead portraying the role of Laxxmi, a transgender. Kiara Advani has been cast opposite Akshay in the movie, marking their second collaboration together after Good Newwz. Laxmii has finally received a digital premiere on Disney+ Hotstar after defying all the odds as the movie has continuously been in the headlines amid various controversies. Numerous protests were also carried out by Hindu activists regarding the initial title of the movie 'Laxmii Bomb' after which makers changed the title to 'Laxmii'. While the movie will not release theatrically in India, fans will have to seek entertainment through Disney+ Hotstar.
