When Salman Khan starrer ‘Tubelight’ was released big things were expected from the movie. It was expected to be the highest grosser but the movie is striving hard to survive in the theatres. Previous Salman Khan movies ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ and ‘Sultan’ opened up big with more than 30 crores on the first day and ‘Tubelight’ was also expected to the same. But the movie opened at approx. Rs. 20 crores, which was way too low for a Salman Khan movie.
However, the movie did survive as no big film was scheduled to release the following week and despite having bad reviews ‘Tubelight’ managed to stand as the second highest grosser Bollywood movie of this year. As of now, the movie has earned around 204 crores and it is behind Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Raees’, which is the highest grosser with 281 crores.
‘Tubelight’ has beaten the movies like ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya’ 200 crores, ‘Jolly LLB 2’ 193 crores, ‘Kaabil’ 177 crores and the unexpected ‘Hindi Medium’ 102 crores. As the things are going right now it’s hard to say that ‘Tubelight’ will beat ‘Raees’, most likely the movie will stand with 230-240 crores, not more than that, because ‘Jagga Jasoos’ will release next week and is expected to have a long run.
Let’s see what the future holds for ‘Tubelight’, on a personal note, the movie was not as bad as people made it. Salman’s fans were expecting an action-packed movie, which ‘Tubelight’ wasn’t. The story was good but the execution was bad, it could have been better.
