He was born on 2nd May 1921 in Kolkata. He started his career as commercial artist. His father Sukumar Ray died in 1923. He was brought up by his mother Suprabha Ray.

Satyajit Ray is known for his direction, but apart from films he did work as writer and Author. He has also done Music Composition.
Satyajit Ray has directed 37 films, in which feature films, documentaries and short films are included. Plus he was Writer , publisher , painter , calligrapher , was also a music -composer and graphic designer .
He has written many Short stories and novels and Book based on kids. He was honoured with Honorary degree in Oxford University.
He used to do many thing related to Film production himself. His used to do directing, cinematography, script writing, music composition, playback, art direction, editing and more. As well as he was a film critic.
For her incredible contribution in world cinema he was honoured with Oscar Award. he has also won 32 National awards.
During producing film Ghare-Baire, he suffered from fever, his condition got serious, then also he continued his work, Medicines don't used to comfortable him but camera used to make him comfortable.
In 1992, he was honoured with Bharat Ratna, on 23 April, 1992, he took his last Breath. He is not with us, but his amazing films are with us, which always makes him remember.
